Grams' Snickerdoodles

Nothing says Christmas like a batch of cookies straight from the oven, and nothing goes with hot chocolate and cold weather like Grams' Snickerdoodles. 

It's a Schaefer family tradition to relax by the fireplace with snickerdoodles, as well as leave some out for Santa. 

Whip up some of your own with this recipe and enjoy Christmas in a cookie! 


You will need: 

  • 1/2 cup softened butter or margarine
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 3/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 2tsp cream of tartar
  • 1tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2tbsp sugar
  • 2tsp cinnamon

Heat oven to 400 degrees. 

Combine softened butter, shortening, sugar, and eggs and mix thoroughly. Stir flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt in to the mixture. 

Scoop out dough with a spoon and roll into balls. 

Mix cinnamon and sugar in a small bowl. One by one, roll dough balls in cinnamon sugar mixture and place 2 inches apart on an ungreased baking sheet. 

Bake 8 to 10 minutes and immediately remove cookies from baking sheet to cool. 

Makes roughly 6 dozen cookies, so half the recipe for smaller batches. 


Pair with a mug of Grams' Hot Chocolate and share with the whole family.
